Fit includes the room, not just the wall

A compact fireplace must suit both the available installation space and the room’s intended use. Ask about minimum as well as maximum heat output and how the controls operate. A small viewing area does not automatically mean a low-output appliance.

Map the constraints

Record room layout, furniture, doors, the desired viewing position and any existing fireplace. Ask the installer to review venting, clearances, utilities and service access before narrowing the shortlist.

Compare realistic options

For an existing opening, ask whether an insert is compatible. For a new location, compare built-in and freestanding arrangements against the actual layout. Request a drawing or clearly marked dimensions showing the complete installation footprint.

Make the quote specific

Include the model, trim, controls, installation work and finishing responsibilities. If a proposed solution depends on particular accessories or room changes, have them named in the scope.

Sources and current requirements

Confirm the current requirements for the property and the selected model. These guides do not replace professional assessment.
